    新加坡国立大学博士生导师,1994年毕业于英国邓迪大学(University of Dundee)土木工程系公共卫生工程专业获博士学位,1996年于新加坡国立大学博士后出站。1996年6月至1999年1月,担任美国艾姆科(EIMCO)公司亚太地区技术部经理,2005年至2011年5月,担任新加坡国立大学环境工程系副教授,副系主任,为新加坡国立大学终身教授职位,江苏省特聘教授,先后指导博士后5人,毕业博士生8人,在读博士生4人,毕业硕士生6人。现为苏州科技学院水处理功能膜材料研究中心主任。
    长期担任《分离和净化技术杂志(Separation and Purification Technology) 》、《近代生物技术专利杂志(Recent Patent on Biotechnology)》、《开放式环境工程杂志(Open Environmental Engineering Journal)》、《开放式废物管理杂志(Open Waste Management Journal)》以及《开放式胶体科学杂志(Open Colloid Science Journal)》等多个国际学术界编委,担任多个国际学术会议重要职务,为亚太地区2011膜科学和技术大会组委会成员、2008年国际固体废物管理大会技术组成员、亚太地区2006膜科学和技术大会技术组成员、亚太地区2004壳聚糖应用专题大会组委会成员、亚洲环境大会2003技术组成员、世界水和废物峰会2001技术顾问组成员等。近十多年来一个主要研究方向是在功能膜及膜材料,对膜表面的功能化,制膜用高分子材料的接枝,共聚和共混,以及生物高分子材料在制膜领域的应用和物质表面间的相互作用机理方面有特殊的造就和贡献。其研究开发的多功能一体化水处理系统的研发、新型高效自清洗膜技术的开发及其对采油及含油废水净化的应用、高效低费用含酚废水处理新技术的开发和应用、水中离子通过反渗透膜的电的相互作用的量化和插值分析、复合光催化-膜分离预处理技术对控制反渗透膜工艺有机物污染的研究、新一代水和废水处理先进膜的分析和开发 、用于水和废水处理的新颖抗生物污染的有机聚合物膜的研发、从废塑料中回收有机聚合物并转化其为高值水处理产品,已获累计各类科研项目经费总计约1500万元。在国际期刊已累计发表SCI论文92篇,2001年以来共发表期刊论文64篇,其中SCI-1区6篇(EST 2篇,WR 4篇)、2区27篇、3区24篇、4区 5篇、最高影响因子5.368,平均影响因子2.864。现每年SCI引用次数都达近400次。在科技成果转化方面取得显著成绩,拥有6项世界发明专利,其中两项也在国外进入工业生产。应邀主编了世界英文版《膜科学和技术百科全书》的“激发-响应膜:原理,制备和应用”全部。
